The Greenbelt S.I.T.Y. Stars (GSS) is a performance and competition jump rope team that was formed in 1991. Jump Rope is one of the most exciting and challenging activities available to athletes today.  This program not only develops technical jumping skills, but also instills traits such as teamwork, self-confidence and sportsmanship while helping to promote the sport of jump rope. Members of the team train diligently preparing for demonstrations and competitions, working to perfect speed, endurance, technique, strength and freestyle skills.

Introduction to Jump Rope

Monday Evenings & Saturday Mornings

Introduction to Jump Rope will introduce the beginning development of basic skills and concepts of jumping including coordination, spatial awareness, turning and a specific focus on single rope footwork and crossing skills; along with double dutch turning and entering and exiting. Jumpers will explore coordination, single time jumps, short combinations, rope handling and introductory movement vocabulary.  The goal of this class is to impart the basic fundamentals of jumping. Training focuses on basic jumping technique, and basic terminology.  Students will be introduced to single rope, long rope and double dutch.  This is a slower-paced class that breaks down basic to intermediate steps in order to help jumpers build a solid foundation of technique.  Great for those with limited to no experience with jumping rope or those who want to improve their technique at a basic level.  Required for new jumpers to the team.

Advanced Skill Development & Conditioning

Wednesday Evenings & Saturday Mornings

Advanced Skill Development & Conditioning is designed to train the intermediate/advanced level jumper in competitive and performance introduce the beginning development of basic skills and concepts of skills utilizing coordination, spatial awareness, turning with a specific focus on dance and tumbling. Jumpers begin to make connections between music and movement, and musicality is encouraged through simple rhythm and counting exercises. Students accepted into this program are required to take Introduction to Jump Rope Basic Skills & Fundamentals.  Jumpers will explore coordination, single time jumps, short combinations, rope handling and movement vocabulary. Students will train in single rope, long rope, Chinese wheel and double dutch. The goal of this class is to expand on the fundamentals of jumping, competing and the SITY Star fundamentals of performing. Training focuses on jumping technique, proper body alignment, terminology and musicality.
